"Soy" meaning "I am" aims to reflect the Dominican women empowerment when cutting their hair, while breaking with Western influences. I started to translate symbolic objects and activities from Dominican Republic such as the faceless dolls, the game of Dominoes and the little wooden country houses into abstract shapes, silhouettes and patterns. But then I thought "you know w h a t? That ain't gonna work." So I decided to create an intangible feeling through patterns because at the end of the day Los Dominicanos shouldn't be stereotypically related to traditional objects, each one has its own galaxy.
