Es un taller experimental en el que utilizaremos el textil como medio para reconocer y deconstruir nuestra identidad (es), mientras pimpiamos una ropa vieja con la que aún nos sentimos identificadxs hoy.

Exploraremos técnicas de bordado intuitivo, collage con retazos de textiles y ropa de segunda mano y aplicaciones con materiales encontrados.
Este taller es un espacio abierto para re-conectar con nuestra historia personal y el círculo de las cosas, mientras bordamos y hacemos coro en el jardín.

- THE WORKSHOP IN ONE SENTENCE
DECONSTRUCTION OF MY-OUR CURRENT IDENTITY TO CREATE OTHER WORLDS
- SUMMARY
RECLAIMING YOUR OLD CLOTHES will be an experimental workshop in which we will use textiles as a means to recognize and deconstruct our identity, while we transform pieces of old clothing with which we still feel identified today. We will explore intuitive techniques of embroidery, quilting and collage with textile waste // second-hand clothes, and appliqués with found materials.
The workshop will be divided in two times: the PAST which will focus on remembering and connecting our individual and collective past with the formation of our current identity and the PRESENT which will focus on creating “other identities” (upcycling a whole look and creating experimental masks) AND “other worlds” (creating a collective interactive installation) with the textiles that we already have.
For this time traveling experience we will also utilize the act of map making, questioning, sharing photographs and stories from our personal history, dialogue, embrace the phrase MY CENTER IS WHEREVER I AM and above all “stay open” and flow with “what resonates with us”.

La importancia de reciclar ropa en estos tiempos nace al observar cómo la industria de la moda está afectando la naturaleza con químicos y tintes para hacer suplir la demanda de ropa que existe actualmente y la cantidad desmedida de producción de ropa. Cuando hablamos de reciclar ropa nos referimos a comprar u obtener mediante donaciones, intercambios o pacas, piezas de segunda mano, deconstruir y rediseñar las que ya no cumplan con su función principal y crear otros objetos como cojines, cortinas, bolsos, entre otros.
En este taller podrás encontrar maneras creativas de darle una segunda oportunidad a esas piezas que pensabas inútiles, también entenderemos cuáles son los funcionamientos básicos de una máquina de coser, patronaje básico de los diseños seleccionados, técnica alternativa de acolchado, teñido de tela con tintes naturales, técnicas de ventas para mercaderes en el sector turístico o personal, y hablaremos sobre el empoderamiento femenino a la hora de crear, crear en comunidad.
Este taller está apoyado por Project Vesta y será impartido por las diseñadoras y artistas visuales Hillary Vicente y Johanna Castillo.
